Fred: Was a cloudy day to begin with, but Susan went ahead and went out to the beach early in the morning. I slept late, of course and then decided it was time to take my bike out. So I went out and rode for about an hour and a half. I guess from about 12:00 til 1:30. Had a good ride, a lot of people out. And then I came back to the beach and got Susan and we went to get some lunch. We went to a place called the
Hungry Heron, which is a place that we've only eaten at, well this was our second time to eat there in the whole ten years that we've been coming here. The first time we'd gone was on a Sunday. They have a Sunday brunch and so for whatever reason, we just have never been back.
It's a restaurant with a lot of choices. They have a menu where all the items are numbered, so I looked at the last item and it was number 255. It's a huge menu, basically almost like a newspaper. That's how big it is. It's just huge. So if you want a lot of choices, go there. I enjoyed my food, I got a, I guess like a philly sandwich, but made with chicken and they also have fried sweet potatoes, which I don't believe I've ever had before, so those were good. They had a good dipping sauce for those. That was a good meal and then Susan got a, she was just looking for some nachos with cheese and whatever stuff they usually put on nachos, on her nachos, so that's a pretty good description I'd say.
Anyway, our meal there was $22.05 plus tip. We just got a couple of iced teas. No alcohol since it was lunch time and who wants to drink at lunch. So, from there we went and did some shopping after lunch. We went to a couple of different places that we have never really been in to or maybe have been to once and just looked around. We actually later went to T-shirt Hut and both of us got a couple of t-shirts and I believe that was it. We came on home and then it started to rain in the afternoon so we just stayed in and did some reading and so forth.
Then we decided to get some dinner at a place that we had never eaten at. We went for a late dinner. I guess it was about 8:30. We had been by this place before. It's at the end of Tarpon Bay Rd. on the west end of Periwinkle, right across the street from the Post Office. It's a place called Twilight Café
[No longer in business. Location is now Redfish
Blufish]. We've been in the parking lot a few times and it was always empty and we just assumed that, like some restaurants, it was closed seasonally--only open during the busy times of the year. But we found out talking with the waitress, that they are closed in June sometimes two or three days a week, I think maybe Sunday or Monday and sometimes another day. It just really depends what the people want to do there. Sounds like they have some flexibility, but it was a really interesting, good, high quality food and I'm sorry that we've never eaten there before because it was very good and I'm sure we'll go again.
I got an Asian stir fry with chicken and rice. Huge amount of chicken, excellent flavor, very good and Susan got some type of beef medallions.
Susan: With mashed potatoes and broccoli and the sauce was absolutely awesome on the meat and the potatoes. It was sort of a thick, mushroom, Steak Dianne type sauce. It was really good.
Fred: Yeah, I forgot, I guess they have sort of a signature item, which is the broccoli. I guess everything comes with broccoli. I like broccoli, Susan's not a big fan of it, but it was excellent. It was sort of a smoky taste. So if your wife doesn't eat her broccoli, be sure to eat hers.
But we brought that home, so we'll have another meal if we have time to eat it.
Susan: And I'd like to mention the Caesar's salad was really good. It was a really tangy, real sharp flavor, but really good. I really enjoyed it. I'd highly recommend it.
Fred: It's a really small restaurant. There was just one waitress . . .
Susan: Twelve tables.
Fred: There are twelve tables. It's a really small restaurant. Only one waitress was working the night we were there because it was not a huge traffic night, but the waitress told us that usually it's just her or one other person. Two people working total, plus the cooks, of course. But give it a shot. I think you'll like it.
There's an attached store which we, it was too late and it was closed before we got there. An art gallery. So check it out.
That was pretty much the end of our day other than just coming home and watching TV and watching the bad weather that was coming in.
