Cabbage Key Boating to Paradise

To add another dimension to just renting a boat, why not go explore an island while you are boating for the day. The perfect place to choose is Cabbage Key on the Pine Island Sound. You may even want to stay a couple of days for a real adventure! This tropical island is only about 100 acres and only accessible by boat, helicopter or seaplane! There are no paved roads and no automobiles on the island. To get around the island visitors will have to use bicycles, golf carts or walk!

There are no grocery stores or shops to browse thru on this island. You will have to visit the mainland for those types of activities. There is only one Inn on the island and that is The Cabbage Key Inn.

Cabbage Key Inn and Restaurant

It is the former mansion of mystery writer Mary Roberts Rinehart. The home was built for her in 1929. You can stay in the main building or smaller cottages. The main building has six air-conditioned rooms, some have fireplaces and all have a private bath. You can also choose a cottage to rent, there are seven of them accommodating one to four couples depending on the cottage. Only a few of the cottages have kitchen facilities. If you would like to stay at the Inn please call 239-283-2278 for availability and to make reservations. You can only make reservations between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (seven days a week) and by phone only.

It is recommended that you bring drinks and lite snacks with you to the island. It would also be a good idea to bring a flashlight if you are staying overnight.

The most popular and well known experience to have on Cabbage Key is to eat at the "Dollar Bill Bar" at the Cabbage Key Inn Restaurant.

Cabbage Key Inn Dollar Bar

This is the bar and restaurant made famous in the Jimmy Buffet song "Cheeseburger in Paradise". The bar area is covered with one dollar bills on all the walls and even the ceiling. A very fun place to get a drink and have a nice meal. You can eat inside or on the patio outside overlooking the water and small marina. Check behind the bar to see a picture of Jimmy Buffet himself!

The restaurant serves more than cheeseburgers and has a large menu from which to choose a great meal! Fresh food is boated over daily. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

When boating to Cabbage Key just look for Channel Marker 60 and you have found paradise!
